Adventure Comics # 278, November, 1960

Here we have Superboy's first meeting with his cousin from the future, Supergirl. This is not to be confused with the issue of SUPERBOY below from eight months earlier in which, well, Superboy met his cousin Supergirl for the first time. Thanks to Martin O'Hearn for reminding us of that meeting which ended with Superboy's memory being erased.

Here's an odd filler strip with a stogie-puffin' Pop!

Adventure Comics # 277, October, 1960

The big news this issue is not only the ad for the premiere of the JLA's own title but also the letters page news that, for the first time, Aquaman is about to be given a test title of his own as well. Also on the letters page, the oft-dodged question of whatever happened to the Kents is here answered with a "We're working on that story right this second" kind of answer.

Adventure Comics # 276, September, 1960

Superboy meets a young C-3PO this issue! More or less.

Bike PSA's and bike ads were very prominent in comic books for years. I've never ridden a bike at all but just about everyone I knew in the early sixties did.

Note, once again, Bizarro. The character was appearing with more and more frequency. Someone was starting to try to devise a Bizarro series by this point I have no doubt.

Uncle Mort goes on record with Supes' having a deep faith in God but wisely won't name his religion or political preference.

Adventure Comics # 275, August, 1960

The Silver Age becomes even more Silver-Agey as young Superboy meets young Bruce Wayne in anticipation of their teaming as the World's Finest heroes.

In answer to whether the LSH heroes would reappear, the current issue of ACTION COMICS is cited. See below.

Here we see the first SUPERMAN ANNUAL that had been so highly touted in recent letters pages.

Meanwhile, over in ACTION, Supergirl was meeting the Legion of Super Heroes...albeit not the same ones that Superboy knoew. In fact, these were specifically stated as being the children of those original characters! For the first time, though, additional characters are introduced including Chameleon Boy, Colossal Boy and a very off-model Invisible Kid. This whole story was later retconned so that these WERE, in fact, THE Legionnaires rather than their descendants!
