Adventure Comics # 267-December, 1959

They're back! On the Swan cover they look like the 30th Century friends we would come to know but inside they aren't quite there yet. The story doesn't help. This has to be one of the worst Superboy stories of the ADVENTURE run to date! Still, another step toward the LSH strip.

Two Daisy ads! Wow. They were spending a LOT of money to get kids to want guns... and apparently rockets.

Adventure Comics # 266, November, 1959

Krypto's highlighted yet again. You have to remember that REX THE WONDER DOG had just been canceled a month earlier after a healthy 46 issue run. Add TV dogs like Rin Tin Tin, Lassie and Roy Rogers' Bullet. Dogs were hot all through the fifties.  Err...no pun intended.

For the first time in ages, we get a couple fillers by someone or ones other than the nigh-ubiquitous Henry Boltinoff...although he's in the issue, also.

Here she is. What fans have been clamoring for. Aquagirl! Take a quick look as she's gone after this story.

Adventure Comics # 265, October, 1959

My, this year's going by so quickly! This issue's cover feature is yet another variation on the past meets the future. Not much going on in the backup strips besides some solid light entertainment. Aqualad is still on his way but not until, as per this issue's letters column, we meet the one shot Aquagirl next issue.  Note also, in the fine print of the ads for other Superman Family comics, the name Congorilla. Congorilla will soon invade these pages.

Adventure Comics # 264, September, 1959

As you can see, Superboy gets yet another rival from space story...already!

ROBIN HOOD had actually had his own DC comic briefly. This issue he teams with his de facto descendant, Green Arrow, and the story even gets a cover plug!

How about that nasty editor putdown of a fan in the letter column, though? Really, Uncle Mort!

Adventure Comics # 263, August, 1959

Not much going on here this month, A fun Superboy story, though. Meanwhile, in the real world, this was the month George "Superman" Reeves died.

Adventure Comics # 262, July, 1959

A good issue all around, starting with this good Curt Swan cover. The mere fact that Krypto was appearing on more and more covers--and more and more prominently on them--goes to his apparent ability to sell the mag.

Note the letter that suggests a Superboy appearance on TV's ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. The response indicates that as a possibility. At this time the series final episode had been more than a year earlier. There was, however, supposedly talk of doing new episodes but a month later that would be moot as George Reeves would be dead. After that, they really did attempt to bring Superboy to the small screen.

Bizarro is back, still far from the lovable goof who would soon inhabit ADVENTURE but getting closer.
