Adventure Comics # 90, February/March, 1944

Artistically at least, this issue is a step back up from recent ones, starting with this fun cover with (presumably) Jack Kirby himself drawing Wes and Sandy!

Stan Kaye's literal splash for GENIUS JONES is a gem!

Mort Meskin is back on STARMAN and our hero smiles with the knowledge.

A little "headlight" action here, unusual at DC, in a splash that looks like it would have been more at home at Quality!

And again, despite the ongoing legal battle between DC and Fawcett over CC Beck's CAPTAIN MARVEL, here's Beck with his other Captain, Tootsie!

Adventure Comics # 89, December/January, 1943

A bit of a lackluster cover signifies another issue of same. 

Wheaties ads with wartime themes were as ubiquitous as those with sports figures for the duration.

Adventure Comics # 88, October/November, 1943

Not much to say here as the title continues to coast during this period with fairly standard tales, SANDMAN being the only one to generally rise above mediocrity. 

Adventure Comics # 87, August/September, 1943

Anther good S&K cover and another good S&K SANDMAN story highlight yet another otherwise dull issue. Nothing bad...but nothing particularly good either.  JACK POTTS, seen below, is another new single page filler.

CAPTAIN TOOTSIE on the back cover was a long-running comic strip ad for Tootsie Roll products, ironically created by the folks behind Fawcett's Captain Marvel, Superman's biggest rival.

Adventure Comics # 86, June/July 1943

June/July? Apparently we're now a bi-monthly. Another striking S&K propaganda cover but it masks a fairly substandard issue. 

The Big Six is not only now the Big Eight but there's another ad further down for the OTHER eight titles DC was putting out!
