Adventure Comics # 217, October, 1955

Here's an early (first?) "return" of Kal's Kryptonian parents. This plot/theme would be returned to 6756 times during the Silver Age. In most of them, Jor-El would get to wear long pants, though.

Bicycle ads were big in comics in the forties, fifties and sixties.

Adventure Comics # 216, September, 1955

An interesting SUPERBOY tale this time out with a Kryptonian city on Earth, Superboy teamed with his adult self...in a way...and the surprise ending where we find that young Clark has had his first meetings with the even younger (SPOILER) Jimmy Olsen.

Adventure Comics # 215, August, 1955

Even with the Comics Code prominently displayed, DC felt that it couldn't hurt to underline their overall wholesome goodness with the Hall of Trophies Page.

Adventure Comics # 214, July, 1955

He's back! Krypto seems meant to have been a one-shot like so many other super-stories but they must have gotten mail. Hard to tell since letters pages had yet to be introduced. EC had them. So did Lev Gleason comics since the forties. I think even Timely had them for a period.  Seems like they would have been cheaper than paying a writer to churn out text stories that almost nobody read month after month after month just to comply with second class postage regulations.

Adventure Comics # 213, June 1955

Pretty much the same scene here between cover and first page.

Once again, a single page filler by an unknown artist. Nicely drawn but not really funny.

Willie Mays was the most popular baseball player in the country and, as such, became probably the first African-American in ADVENTURE COMICS who was not a stereotype...even though he only appeared for this one photo.

Adventure Comics # 212, May, 1955

Fishing, camping, traveling... would think this was a summer issue rather than being on the stands in March.
