Adventure Comics # 201, September, 1954
The highlights of this late pre-code issue are the JOHNNY QUICK story, a clever and funny tale drawn by regular artist Ralph Mayo, and the full page ad for the debut of JIMMY OLSEN. Jimmy's book would become a cult favorite as well as an important part of comics history when Jack Kirby took it over nearly two decades later and introduced Darkseid.

This Johnny Quick artist is Hi Mankin; Ralph Mayo didn't come back to the feature after those issues by Paul Norris. Mike Tiefenbacher is the one who finally put a name to this unheralded artist on the strip.
ReplyDeleteYour input is always welcome and appreciated, sir. I didn't think it looked like Mayo but GCD said Mayo so I went with it. Thanx!
